India put in one of their best bowling performances under pressure in recent times to defend a total of 188 in the second India v Australia Test at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on Day 4, beating Australia by 75 runs. They thus brushed aside the harrowing Pune defeat and brought 1-1 parity in the four-match series. At the forefront of the Indian victory on day four was a certain Ravichandran Ashwin who picked up six for 41, en route to becoming India's fifth most successful Test bowler.
Then again, in a match that had more twists and turns than a roller coaster, to pick out one player for the victory will be just unfair. India were behind the eight-ball after they were shot down for 189 on day one and after Australia batsmen had applied themselves well on a testing pitch to take a vital lead, Ravindra Jadeja (6/63) found his mark and restricted the lead to just 87. Then Cheteshwar Pujara (92) and Ajinkya Rahane's (52) valiant, might as well add a match-turning, 118-run stand for the fifth wicket edged India ahead. Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav stepped up with a probing spell on the penultimate day that put Australia under pressure. And the importance of KL Rahul's twin fifties (90 & 51), on a track everyone else struggled, cannot be undermined as well.
t is unlikely that both the teams will make changes for this game. India it looks like will stick to winning combination and that means Yuvraj Singh will get an extended run, perhaps his last chance in T20Is to impress the selectors. Also, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will continue to warm the bench, given Jasprit Bumrah and Ashish Nehra’s impressive performance at Nagpur. Captain Virat Kohli did not use the service of Hardik Pandya in the second T20I, but he will have a role to play in this fixture. The Indian captain used part-timer, Suresh Raina at Nagpur and he went for many. On a flat Bengaluru wicket, Kohli will have to think twice before throwing the ball to Raina, so that is where Pandya’s role as a bowler becomes important.
Visitors England will be in no mood tinker with their playing XI, except for one change. Spinner Liam Dawson is likely to go back to the bench, and Liam Plunkett could well be back in the side. David Willey who was nursing an injury is fit to play, but with Chris Jordan and Tymal Mills doing a fine job up front it doesn’t make sense to drop any one of them. England can even consider bringing in Willey in place Dawson. Willey has been successful in T20 cricket and is handy with the bat as well.
This will be the third T20I for India ta the venue. The home side has lost one and won as many. Head to head India and England have faced each other ten times in T20Is. England lead by six wins while India has won four matches.
